The Story Of This Quilt |
Hohlakas Bay by Louise Donovan. |
|
From Skala's port, if you follow the main shopping street which leaves the harbour area, you can cross the island by foot in only a matter of a few minutes, to reach Hohlakas Bay (Sunset Beach).
The sunsets here are truly stunning Watch the sun set at this beach then turn around and look up, and there against a perfect Patmos Blue sky is the full moon brilliantly lit.
When life does not go smoothly I can imagine myself back at this magic place and calm descends.
This piece is also inspired by a much-loved song in the Disney film ‘Pocahontas’ - The Colours Of The Wind. Also by the Navajo expression – ‘Home is the place where the wind knows your name’. For me this is both St Ives and Patmos.
My time in Patmos always brings me back to these important messages and my textile art is my attempt to paint with all my colors of the wind. |
