About This Quilt

My solo exhibition at the Crypt Gallery in St Ives in November 2021 featured My Textile Art Journey Through The Pandemic And Interconnections, as the title stated. It also included nine pieces that I had made between the end of my first show at the Crypt Gallery in November 2018 and the start of the Pandemic in February 2020. Two are on show here again in this Marazion exhibition, renamed as Pyramids on Purple and Light through a Mondrian Prism. Another of those nine - Sunlight through Bars – attracted attention and was admired.

It inspired Light Through Bars in this Marazion show.

By now, my understanding of the concept of light has deepened. I have been a Quaker attender since January 2022, at first by weekly Zoom sessions and more recently in person. Quakers place much emphasis on the Light. We talk about holding people in the Light when they are facing life-changing circumstances. We trust that the Light of the Spirit is in us all and will be there for us all, whenever needed.

Yet we know that for many the Light will be experienced when their bodies are in captivity – and we all may struggle to be true to that Light. We can all find ourselves trapped in our own bonds. Bars constrain us.

My Light Through Bars piece measures 33.5” x 36.5”.
